the majority of the fresh eight additions had been straight administration agreements, he observed. The deal involved three distinct ownership corporations already working with HP resorts who were trying to take their resorts to the next level.

HP resorts has a few tradition boutique properties that it’s at the moment negotiating on, he stated. The company has had event with a handful of those kinds of motels in recent years, and a few of these transacted for first rate returns.

“We foresee doing more in that tradition boutique and gentle-branding class sooner or later,” he referred to.

Investing in technologyThe business is moving onto the next step to be sure it could possibly retain operational excellence across each inn, Oswald spoke of. for example, the new equipment ability the housekeeping team not should use paper and clipboards, he said. business cultureAs HP resorts pursues operational event, it’s crucial to maintain its center of attention on americans and lifestyle, Oswald spoke of. The enterprise is specializing in making a significant difference within the lives of its crew contributors, he mentioned.

The enterprise has techniques in location enabling to extra actively and dynamically speak with team individuals, he noted. Its inns have giant digital displays in admired locations within the lower back-of-apartment areas that share tips comparable to company updates, merits updates, crew member cognizance, guest letters, provider themes of the day and advice about VIPs.

“We’re controlling that at a mix of the company level and local degree,” he talked about. “we are able to control from a company workplace, but we enable for some local personalization by way of giving the GM entry to a couple of screens as well.”

Its new operation management system is going to make a meaningful change, he pointed out. it will permit leadership to motivate crew contributors and provide assist to people who want it. “We then track who offers probably the most assistances,” he stated. “We wish to encourage that guide amongst group individuals during the company.”

This interprets into the ordinary subculture and whereas it’s intricate to tune, it turns into a part of the DNA, Oswald talked about. crew participants go out of their how to assist each and every different, akin to personnel who are sick or in the health center, the other team individuals bought meals, visited with them and lined shifts.

“if you happen to do this well as (a) enterprise and start to create this culture, it gains a lifetime of its personal,” he spoke of. “The crew contributors pick up on it. It permeates and establishes a whole new lifestyle.”

HP Omen Obelisk review | Real Questions and Pass4sure dumps

Prebuilt PCs were once the area of ridicule among enthusiast gamers. HP hopes to change ordinary opinion and the conversation in gaming circles with its newest Omen Obelisk.

This gaming notebook ambitions extra serious gamers with facets like Intel’s Core i7 or AMD Ryzen processors, speedy HyperX RAM, not obligatory Intel Optane memory, and Nvidia’s newest GeForce RTX 2080 photos. And the best part is that this compact gaming desktop tower nonetheless comes with enough internal area to assist future enhancements.

The Omen Obelisk has a modest sub-$900 starting price, but you won’t be impressed with these specs. Our upgraded $1,999 evaluation unit comes is the one you need with its sleek case,  tremendous tempered glass window, and excessive-conclusion components. You can be stunned how a whole lot gaming goodness HP managed to pack into this equipment.

Understated enchantment

even though it doubtless won’t enchantment to gamers in search of a flashier equipment, the Obelisk’s greater demure aesthetics make it healthy extra without problems into a home workplace setup. With its all-black metal development, graceful tempered glass side window, and subtle LED lighting, HP is obviously concentrated on home clients who could need this laptop to serve dual applications for work and play.

HP Omen Obelisk Chuong Nguyen/Digital tendencies

until you’re in a position to spot the glowing LED-lit Omen brand at the desirable of the pyramidal-shaped Obelisk in the front or word the glowing backlight through the glass panel, the Omen Obelisk can comfortably move as a typical consumer computing device. HP doesn’t downplay the Obelisk’s Omen gaming heritage though. It’s just a stylish tower that foregoes the garish flourishes which are historically linked to gaming PCs.

With a name like Obelisk, you’d expect HP’s computer to tower to your desk. happily, that’s no longer the case, because the Omen Obelisk is a compact computer despite the fact that it is available in a well-recognized tower kind ingredient. Our overview unit supports a microATX Edoras motherboard and whole-size images card, assisting to maintain the universal footprint to a minimum in your desk. You nevertheless have entry to an array of ports and a number of area interior the case for future improvements.

regardless of a showy, un-tinted tempered glass window, there isn’t lots visible hobby inner.

The Obelisk’s 6.5 x 14.1 x 17-inch (width x size x peak) dimensions is comparable in measurement to the Asus ROG Strix GL12CX gaming desktop, making both towers pretty compact for the RTX portraits vigour that’s interior. The ROG advantages, besides the fact that children, from a larger ATX-sized motherboard and a newer processor however comes with a significantly extra costly $3,200 rate tag.

but when measurement is a priority, boutique gaming firm starting place laptop’s recently refreshed customized-developed Neuron ships with a microATX motherboard with a ninth-Gen Intel Core i9 and beefier RTX 2080 Ti pics. The Lenovo Legion C730 is smaller nevertheless, but that cooler-impressed pc comes underpowered with closing generation’s GTX pix.

below the looking glass

regardless of its un-tinted see-through side tempered glass window, there definitely isn’t a lot visual interest internal. Like competing gaming techniques, there’s configurable RGB lighting fixtures, and the easy cable management gadget continues things geared up and tidy. but you received’t locate a elaborate RTX pix playing cards with glowing emblem or a elaborate radiator.

where the glass panel design truly comes into play is on the upgraded Omen Obelisk configuration that turned into announced at CES 2019. This newer mannequin tops out with a newer Intel Core i9 processor and greater powerful RTX 2080 Ti photos. The fascinating features from this mannequin include the radiator and pipes from the liquid cooling equipment, which should help deliver greater visible pastime in case you’re looking throughout the glass.

HP is certainly focused on individuals who may wish this desktop to serve dual functions for work and play.

For DIYers who need extra handle of their computers, the EMI-coated glass panel will also be accessed with out equipment. HP claims that the clear EMI coating helps to stay away from any radio or magnetic interference. via pulling a latch on the rear of the tower, the aspect panel can also be quickly removed, giving access to all the interior add-ons. interior, you’ll discover access to 2 RAM sockets, two M.2 sockets, full-top pictures card, fan, hard power, and a 500-watt vigor provide unit (PSU). although the low watt rating on the PSU might also appear underwhelming given the RTX pictures card, we encountered zero concerns with this configuration.

although our build doesn’t come with a lot in terms of lively cooling, the Obelisk did be capable of preserve temperatures in check with strategically positioned vents along the rear, facets, and desirable. The bottom-established PSU also helps with heat dissipation, and two non-LED-lit enthusiasts support with air circulation. In use, the fans sounded a bit of louder than some competing top class gaming PCs that we’ve tested in the past. There’s also a dirt filter, which turns out to be useful to hold issues looking clean in case you have a big see-through glass panel.

The tower supports numerous room for growth, in case you should swap in a beefier PSU or make a decision to upgrade to a GeForce RTX 2080 Ti card sooner or later. RAM and storage are each brief enhancements. The Omen Obelisk additionally ships with HP’s USB keyboard and mouse, but serious gamers will either bring their own peripherals or upgrade the inventory add-ons.

Reachable ports

The Omen Obelisk comprises two arrays of ports to support you connect your display screen, keyboard, mouse, and other peripherals. Mainstays, just like the vigor cable, reveal output, and speaker connection, can also be plugged into the rear. 5 USB three.1 ports, a single USB-C port, HDMI, and three DisplayPort connections, Ethernet jack, and audio ports line the returned of the unit.

HP Omen Obelisk Chuong Nguyen/Digital traits

On this generation of the Omen Obelisk, HP redesigned the accurate ports with a front-facing design for less complicated access. On the prior technology, the Obelisk became designed with rear-facing ports, making for a sleeker and cleaner design on the fee of port accessibility. Up true, you’ll find two USB three.1 ports, headphone jack, microphone jack, and the energy button.

Priced to perform

In a movement to retain costs down, and sure in a rush to release the Obelisk sooner to gamers, HP opted now not to watch for Intel’s more recent ninth-technology processors. as a result, the Omen Obelisk units that shipped in late-2018 got here with eighth-era Intel processors. Our evaluate system got here configured with an Intel espresso Lake Core i7-8700 CPU with six cores and 12 threads.

The slower performance of Intel’s outdated technology processor is apparent, however, when working processor benchmarks. The Omen Obelisk posted lessen single- and multi-core scores than competing programs that use ninth-generation Intel Core i9-9900K processors, like the beginning Chronos, Digital Storm Aventum X, and Asus ROG Strix GL12CX. compared to the Alienware area-51 R5’s Intel Core i9-7980XE processor, the Obelisk posted mixed consequences, scoring seven hundred features greater on the one-core verify and greater than three,000 facets reduce on the multi-core verify. after we used Handbrake to encode a sample 4K movie, the check carried out 38 percent sooner on the ROG than the Omen Obelisk.

And despite the fact that our unit comes with a 512GB M.2-structure solid-state power made by using SK Hynix, the pressure turned into on the slower facet, with 664 Mb/s examine and 448 Mb/s write speeds. These speeds are slower than competing Samsung, Toshiba, and Western Digital Drives on other devices we’ve reviewed, just like the Aventum X, Microsoft floor Studio 2, and Huawei MateBook 13. It’s even slower than the Lenovo Legion C730, which comes with a smaller 256GB SK Hynix SSD.

There’s additionally a 1TB challenging pressure on this equipment, and users who need more storage means can add a third drive. both challenging drives are readily accessible in the challenging pressure bays, and swapping out the M.2 SSD is an easy task, most effective requiring unscrewing a single Phillips-head screw.

Ray tracing able gaming

thankfully, regardless of a little bit slower processing speeds relative to contemporary competitors, the Obelisk is still aggressive in the pics branch, due to its Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 portraits. nevertheless, regardless of sharing a similar photos card because the Asus ROG Strix GL12CX, the Omen Obelisk carried out a bit of worse throughout 3DMark Time undercover agent, Sky Diver, and fire Strike checks. each units’ scores were in a similar fashion lower than the origin Chronos, which is to be anticipated on the grounds that the Chronos ships with an RTX 2080 Ti card. With 3DMark’s new Port Royale benchmark, which measures ray tracing, the Obelisk scored 5,598 points with an ordinary of 25.92 FPS (frames per 2nd).

In our gaming assessments, the Omen Obelisk again delivered identical efficiency degrees as different programs with Nvidia’s RTX 2080 graphics. In normal, marks across the board in titles like Civilization VI, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Battlefield I, and Rocket League had been slightly lessen on the Obelisk than the origin Chronos.

In Battlefield I, Civilization VI, and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, the Obelisk delivered well over 60 FPS throughout all game settings, even in 4K resolution. In Deus Ex: Mankind Divided at 4K in extremely mode, there was a noticeable dip in efficiency, but the Obelisk carried out 10 FPS more suitable than the Asus ROG Strix GL12CX’s 39 FPS mark regardless of each methods sharing equivalent portraits playing cards. This shows that even with an ageing 8th-gen Intel processor, the Obelisk became still able to sustain with competitors working more moderen 9th-gen silicon.

Given the always strong efficiency of the Obelisk, gamers may now not note a great deal of a efficiency gap, even with an older processor. In well-known, we discovered that the RTX sequence photos delivered extra consistent consequences across 1080, 1440p, and 4K resolutions than the older GTX collection, which confirmed a slowdown in framerates at better resolutions.

With the actual-time ray-tracing enabled on Battlefield V, we observed that the game looked extra practical, and we appreciated the added level of particulars. The feature, despite the fact, does tax the device at higher resolutions, and there’s a significant dip in performance when ray-tracing is cranked to “ultra” in 4K resolution. With ray-tracing off and HDR enabled, the video game performed on average between fifty six to 59 FPS in 1080p, 1440p, and 4K resolutions at about 60Hz. When ray-tracing is enabled, framerates remained consistent at lessen 1080p and 2K resolutions, however in 4K, efficiency in the “Nordlys” mission dropped to simply 32 FPS.

HP presents a typical one-year off-web page warranty masking components, labor, and transport charges to send the unit to a fix core. game enthusiasts who desire longer peace of intellect can opt for an upgraded two-12 months warranty for $239 or a two-yr plan with accidental hurt insurance policy for $279. The latter covers surprising activities, like water spills and even drops, which could come in handy in case you find yourself commonly toting the Obelisk to LAN parties.

HP’s base one-12 months guarantee falls in keeping with what mainstream brands, like Dell’s Alienware and Lenovo’s Legion presents, but these competitors offer longer top rate applications that may lengthen the coverage of your gadget for as much as 5 years. greater costly build-to-order systems from boutique brands like foundation computer and Digital Storm include a base three-yr restrained warranty.

Our Take

HP made some sacrifices to hurry the Omen Obelisk out at the end of 2018, and this capacity that the unit doesn’t correct out with the top-quality CPU or GPU at the most desirable configuration. still, at a sub-$2,000 cost factor, the Obelisk’s 8th-Gen Intel – as opposed to the more recent 9th-Gen silicon – processor and RTX 2080 pix does a commendable job at handling framerates in video game play.

In our benchmarks, we discovered that HP’s resolution to go together with Intel’s closing generation processor didn’t have an awful lot of an have an effect on on gaming performance. And unless you’re pushing the gaming envelope with ray-tracing titles at the optimum game settings at 4K resolutions, going with the Obelisk’s RTX 2080 images, as an alternative of the flagship RTX 2080 Ti will doubtless save you just a little of cash, as efficiency with ray-tracing enabled commonly handiest dropped at resolutions more advantageous than 1440p.

Is there a much better option?

in case you’re ok with Intel’s remaining generation processors, HP’s Omen Obelisk is awfully low-cost for its requirements. Asus’ competing ROG Strix, for instance, prices about $1,200 more than the Obelisk at $3,299. At that cost, you’re getting a newer 9th-technology Intel Core i7-9700 processor. Dell’s Alienware enviornment-fifty one laptop charges the identical fee because the ROG Strix, however you’re getting an eight-core Intel Core i7-7820X processor, 16GB RAM, and 128GB M.2 strong-state drive coupled with a 1TB tough pressure.

Boutique notebook manufacturer foundation computer’s Chronos computer additionally comes in a similarly compact equipment. When configured with an Intel Core i7-9700K processor and an RTX 2080 portraits card, the origin begins at $2,432, which is a $400 top class over the Obelisk. origin offers way more customization options if you like to trick out your rig, but the Chronos doesn’t include HP’s single-pane window design.

if you’re a extra critical gamer, you’ll are looking to look forward to the 2019 edition of the Omen Obelisk that HP announced at CES. The 2019 Obelisk keeps the equal aesthetics and design as our evaluate unit, however the more desirable configuration maxes out with more recent Intel Core i9 processor, more advantageous RTX 2080 Ti pix, and a radiator for liquid cooling. This updated model is anticipated to carry more power for computational initiatives and more suitable gaming performance. It’s slated to arrive in March beginning at $2,249, so pricing on the 8th-gen Intel configuration may drop at the moment.

HP Omen Obelisk compared to

How long will it remaining?

despite which configuration you choose, the HP Omen Obelisk will satisfy your gaming needs for years to return. all of the interior add-ons are upgradeable, and if you decide on an RTX sequence pics card, you’re buying a future-proof workstation. The challenge for many gamers who buy this and different RTX-equipped device is expecting developers to add guide for ray tracing into their titles, and that manner can take ages.

in case you purchase it?

yes. if you don’t have the endurance to source your personal materials to build your personal pc, HP’s Omen Obelisk is a very good pre-built choice that’s good value and neatly fitted to deliver the efficiency most game enthusiasts want. even though it’s a gaming tower that’s focused at mainstream game enthusiasts, it’s got enough facets – ease of upgrade, RTX energy, and a modern design – that makes this laptop attractive to the fanatic.

HP's ink DRM instructs your printer to ignore the ink for your cartridge in the event you cancel your subscription | Real Questions and Pass4sure dumps

Inkjet printer producers continue to pioneer inventive the right way to create true-world, desktop dystopias that make Black mirror look positive by way of evaluation: one such nightmare is HP's "subscription" printers the place a small amount of money buys you ink cartridges that continually communicate with HP's servers to validate that you just're still procuring your subscription, and in case you cancel, the ink stops working.

HP's argument is that or not it's subsidizing the ink and also you're agreeing to this medicine within the cut price, but of path, HP is never "subsidizing" the ink, or not it's in simple terms charging a couple hundred percent markup, as antagonistic to its average practice of charging a few million percent markups (and using misleading and unlawful tactics to drive you to purchase ink from them, and never from their competitors).

HP has been working the carrier considering the fact that at the least 2016; you opt for a plan that puts a cap on the variety of pages which you can print in a month. You pay for that many pages no matter what number of you print -- and if you run out of accessible pages, your printer refuses to print anymore, although you've got a lot of ink to print with.

HP also requires subscribers to come their empty cartridges (they call it "recycling" but the indisputable fact that this maintains empty carts out of the hands of refillers is most likely no accident).

it's just one other method that printer companies are main the cost to erode property rights for humans with the aid of expanding property rights for organisations.

here’s the kicker: in case you cancel, your ink stops working. You read that appropriate; as soon as your billing cycle ends the printer will now not accept the ink anymore, and also you’re required to send it returned to HP. at the least they supply the postage and packaging for that aim.

HP doesn’t spell out any consequences of their phrases of carrier for failure to send the ink returned, so we checked with a aid agent. They helpfully defined that nothing occurs if you fail to ship them returned, however the cartridges would stop working. You’ll need to purchase more ink on your own if you need to keep printing. HP ships certainly marked ink as a part of this system, and your printer recognizes that it is intended for instant Ink subscribers handiest. It’s virtually DRM, however as an alternative of locking down a digital film or book, this locks down a physical product: the ink on your printer.

speedy Ink requires an online connection to your printer. HP explains that they computer screen your ink tiers, so they be aware of when to ship you greater, but as described of their phrases of provider the other reason behind here's to remotely disable your ink cartridges in case you cancel, or if there are any considerations together with your payment.

HP ZBook Studio G5 Mobile Workstation review: Stylish, sturdy and powerful | real questions and Pass4sure dumps

  • ✓Very bright 4K screen
  • ✓Xeon processor
  • ✓Good array of ports and connectors
  • Cons
  • ✕4K screen impacts on battery life
  • ✕Large and heavy
  • ✕Fan noise in high-end configurations
  • HP's mobile workstations come in several format factors, including detachable (ZBook X2 G4) and compact PC (Z2 Mini G4). The laptop-style ZBook Studio G5 Mobile Workstation has a 15.6-inch screen and some very high-end specifications.

The HP ZBook Studio G5 is made for toughness and power, but not so much for portability. It's a big and heavy machine, weighing 2kg taking up a desktop footprint of 360mm wide by 254mm deep, with a maximum thickness of 174mm. The build quality is very solid, with almost no flex in the lid and a base that should withstand a fair bit of handling as the laptop moves between desks and offices. According to HP, the ZBook Studio G5 has "passed 14 rigorous military standard tests like shock, drop and dust".

There is a distinctive styling to HP's ZBook series, in the shape of angled corner cutouts at the back of the screen and keyboard edges. These serve no purpose, but look good.

The 15.6-inch ZBook Studio weighs a hefty 2kg: if you do take it on your travels, it's sturdy enough to take a few shocks and drops. The 4K screen is very bright.

Another standout feature is a speaker grille that extends the full length above the keyboard. Carrying the Bang & Olufsen marque, the stereo speakers pump out high-quality sound with rich bass tones even at the highest volume — which is rather higher than most laptops can manage.

The display can be driven by the UHD Graphics 630 GPU that accompanies the latest generation of Intel processors, or by a discrete Nvidia Quadro P1000 if you require more graphics performance. There are two off-the-shelf ZBook Studio G5 models available in the UK (see below), both of which include the Quadro P1000 with 4GB of dedicated video RAM.

    Top ZDNET Reviews

My review sample came with a 15.6 inch non-touch screen with 3,840 by 2,160 resolution. This resolution is not available in the two UK iterations of this laptop, both of which have FHD (1,920 x 1,080) screens. I found the 4K screen's 600cd/m2 maximum brightness somewhat overpowering, but its colour rendering (100% Adobe RGB) was excellent.

Above the screen is a webcam, which had a sliding privacy screen in my review sample. This feature is only available on non-touch versions of the ZBook Studio G5.

The B&O speaker system under the grille puts out good audio quality. The backlit keyboard has a firm but smooth action.

    Image: Sandra Vogel/ZDNet

The keyboard is a pleasure to work with. The keys sit rather more proud than is customary, and as a result require a firm typing action. This might not appeal to everyone, but the key action itself is very smooth, and I had no trouble touch-typing at my standard speed. There are two backlight levels, easily toggled via a Fn key.

The glass clickpad is large and very responsive to single-finger sweeps, clicks and gestures. Buttons are embedded, and also work well.

There's a fingerprint sensor in the wrist rest, and HP provides a range of additional security features including HP Password Manager, HP Power On Authentication and pre-boot authentication.

I noted earlier that there are two off-the-shelf models of the ZBook Studio G5 available in the UK. Their base specifications are:

  • Intel Core i7-8850H, Windows 10 Pro, 15-6-inch 1,920 x 1,080 non-touch screen with ambient light sensor, Nvidia Quadro P1000 graphics (4GB GDDR5), 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD£1,870.80 (inc. VAT)
  • Intel Core i9-8950HK, Windows 10 Pro, 15-6-inch 1,920 x 1,080 non-touch screen with ambient light sensor, Nvidia Quadro P1000 graphics (4GB GDDR5), 32GB RAM, 512GB SSD£2,470.80 (inc. VAT)
  • There's also a Xeon processor option, although this is not available off-the-shelf in the UK. However, it was included in my review unit, which had the following core specs:

  • Intel Xeon E-2186M, Windows 10 Pro, 15-6-inch 3,840 x2,160 non-touch screen with ambient light sensor, Nvidia Quadro P1000 graphics (4GB GDDR5), 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD
  • With these high-end specifications, the review unit's fan kicked in occasionally — even when the system was idling. It was fairly noisy and would be an irritation in a quiet office. I wasn't pushing the laptop particularly hard, either — just writing into a web-based app, streaming some music and charging the battery. Yet the fan buzzed away for ten minutes or so at a time.

When the fan was on, the area above the keyboard (containing the speaker grille) became noticeably warm, as did the back underside of the chassis.

If you need to carry this large and heavy laptop around, battery life could be an issue. On my review specification, and with the default battery settings, I found that my relatively undemanding workload depleted a full battery to 42 percent over four hours.

However, it's worth noting that the default setting had the screen set to 95 percent brightness, which I found too bright for everyday use — in fact I could work quite happily with it at 25 percent for much of the time. The 4K screen in my review sample may also play its part in draining the battery. Working with a lower-spec UK configuration might deliver all-day battery life, albeit at the expense of performance.

The ZBook Studio G5 has a good range of connections: full-size HDMI, two USB-C Thunderbolt ports, a 3.5mm audio jack and an SD card reader on the right, and two further USB 3.0 ports on the left.

The ZBook Studio G5 measures 88mm-174mm thick and carries a good set of ports, including a full-size HDMI connector and two USB-C Thunderbolt ports.

    Images: HP Inc. Conclusions

HP's ZBook Studio G5 Mobile Workstation can be configured to handle high-end workloads, although the combination of a Xeon processor and a very bright 4K display will have an adverse effect on battery life. So long as you're not looking to get too mobile with this sturdy but stylish 15.6-inch laptop, it's a serious contender for power users.

HP Z200 Workstation | real questions and Pass4sure dumps

10 Jun, 2010 By: Ron LaFon First Look Review: New dual-core desktop workstation offers good performance and configurability at an entry-level price.

These days if you're able to invest in new technology at all, you probably want to ensure you get the most possible for the money. So you might be very interested to hear about HP's new professional workstation, the HP Z200, which began shipping in February. We put this entry-level system to the test in Cadalyst Labs and found it delivers an excellent price-to-performance ratio — that is, lots of bang for the buck. At a starting price of only $769, the Z200 can efficiently run AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, or power office applications, and for a slightly greater investment, it can do a lot more.

Good things come in small packages — or so the saying goes. That's certainly true of the new HP Z200 workstation. Measuring 17.7" x 7" x 17.9", this desktop system may be compact, but it packs enough horsepower to make it a viable choice for CAD and engineering firms.

The HP Z200 offers workstation-caliber power and productivity at a starting price that rivals those of traditional desktop computers.

    The System

The HP Z200 I tested was based on an Intel Core i5-650 3.2-GHz dual-core processor with 4 MB of internal cache on a motherboard using an Intel 3450 chipset. Various processors are available, but the system I tested was equipped with the dual-core processor offering a faster clock speed. HP's investment in acoustic engineering is evident in what you can't hear — this system is one of the quietest ever to come through Cadalyst Labs.

I tested the HP Z200 with 4 GB of 1,333-MHz DDR3 ECC RAM, but it can accommodate as much as 16 GB when fully populated. A single 250-GB SATA 7,200-rpm drive was installed; configurations with multiple hard drives and more than 1 TB of capacity are available. A 16x DVD±RW SuperMulti SATA optical drive completed the drive inventory for this particular system. Microsoft Windows XP x64 with Service Pack 2 was preinstalled.

System graphics were powered by the NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800 PCIe graphics card. Other models from NVIDIA and ATI are available.

The Z200 has many connectors for external and internal peripherals. On the front of the system are two USB 2x sockets, a spot for the optional IEEE 1394a connector, and microphone and headphone jacks. On the back are six USB 2x connectors and serial and VID-D dual-link ports. One DisplayPort connector is available with an optional PCI card. The workstation also has three internal USB 2x connectors, which are ideal for accommodating the critical hardware dongles required by some high-end software.

The review unit included the optional 22-in-1 media card reader, which provided an additional USB 2x port in the front of the system, as well as an installed IEEE 1394a port on the front of the case. A standard HP USB keyboard and an HP USB scroll mouse rounded out the package.

Among numerous green features of the Z200 are the 320-W 89% power supply and HP WattSaver technology, which consumes less than 1 W in Off mode when activated. The HP Z200 is ENERGY STAR v5.0 qualified.

Included with the HP Z200 workstation was the new and noteworthy HP Performance Advisor software. Designed for nontechnical users, this tool helps keep workstations operating at optimal performance by maintaining drivers, operating systems, and applications. Formerly called the HP Performance Tuning Framework, it ships on all new HP workstations and is available via free download from the HP web site. The workstation I reviewed also included a trial version of HP SkyRoom visual collaboration software, which allows two to four users to work interactively across the world with real-time 3D graphics sharing and HD2 videoconferencing.

    Testing and Performance

I began testing the HP Z200 using the Cadalyst C2010 v5.3 Benchmark Test, which supports 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows. I tested the HP Z200 under the 64-bit version of Microsoft Windows XP x64 with Service Pack 2 and other updates installed.

As usual, I ran several iterations of the C2010 benchmark using the 64-bit version of AutoCAD 2010 with the latest service pack and hot fixes installed. I used the native AutoCAD 2010 DirectX driver and the NVIDIA Accelerated driver for AutoCAD 2010. Using the NVIDIA driver, the C2010 total index score was 434, the 3D graphics index was 1,032, the 2D graphics index was 251, the disk index was 185, and the CPU index was 266. The C2010 benchmark ran to completion in 17 minutes.

The native AutoCAD 2010 DirectX drivers produced the following C2010 test scores: total index score was 398, the 3D graphics index was 830, the 2D graphics index was 307, the disk index was 188, and the CPU index was 265. The completion time for the C2010 benchmark in this configuration was 16 minutes.

Next, I ran SPECviewperf 10, which evaluates how various CAD and other design applications will perform within a given system configuration. This benchmark is long overdue for updating and has some problems with Windows 7, so I'm currently testing workstations with Microsoft Windows XP or Vista installed. Although the newer processors offer an array of settings that can boost system performance, I'm opting to test using the default system configuration provided for review by the manufacturer.

    For SPECviewperf 10, the Z200 produced test results as follows: 61.29 for 3dsmax-04, 67.08 for catia-02, 55.01 for ensight-03, 233.36 for maya-02, 68.05 for proe-04, 137.77 for sw-01, 35.67 for tcvis-01, and 31.73 for ugnx-01. With threads enabled (Composite 2 thread/Composite 4 thread), the results were as follows: 113.35/113.03 for 3ds-max-04, 89.80/91.86 for catia-02, 216.69/218.62 for maya-02, 84.79/84.15 for proe-04, 164.50/184.80 for sw-01, and 29.64/29.38 for tcvis-01.

Cadalyst normally runs a third benchmark test to evaluate how a system performs with Autodesk 3ds Max. However, no benchmark currently exists that incorporates many of the latest 3ds Max features. So I've suspended this portion of workstation testing until completion of the new SPECapc benchmark for 3ds Max, which I'm told is in the works.

Graphics for the HP Z200 were provided by an NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800, a moderately priced graphics card with upper mid-range performance. I used the preinstalled NVIDIA drivers v6.14.11.9156, dated October 1, 2009. I also used the NVIDIA accelerated driver for AutoCAD 2010; it is available as standalone download. Before testing, I set the drivers to Force Off and minimized various background processes.

Benchmark performance for this HP Z200 was very good overall. According to HP, this system is approximately 20% faster on average than the highly rated HP xw4600, which the Z200 replaces in the HP workstation lineup.

    Good Value, Good Performance

Pricing for the HP Z200 workstation as configured for this review was $2,060, excluding a monitor. HP's limited warranty coverage for the Z200 is three years for labor, parts, and next–business day on site service. Extended warranty plans are available; warranty parts replacement is next–business day delivery. HP offers a 30-day Dead on Arrival return policy, with a standard repair process thereafter. A one-year limited warranty is available in some portions of the Asia-Pacific.

Considering its extremely quiet operation, extensive configuration options, and high performance — as well as its great depth of application certifications and its excellent finish — the HP Z200 has a lot going for it. You could find systems offering more power, but if what you want is good value, the Z200 is certainly worth your consideration. It offers a lot of system now plus room for growth. Highly Recommended.
